GifGrabber was better
I wish I’d had any control over this update, which steathily happened unbeknownst to me overnight. GifGrabber wasn’t a pretty app by any means, but it did what it did relatively well. As others have said here, some of the new features (like caption, pingpong) are nice for those who want them, but there are some glaring problems here:
1. The UI obstructs any and all player interfaces, so you have to start playback early and then manuever the window over it every time and just hope you get the positioning right and in time.
2. You no longer have any idea what the size of the file will be, so good luck with all of that trial and error if you want to compress GIFs for Tumblr (which has a 2MB limit). GifGrabber told us exactly what the size would be without actually saving the file, so while it wasn’t perfect, it was reliable. Also, being able to adjust frames by number was nice when you knew that changing by a single integer or two would shave off the file weight accordingly. Now it’s dumbed down to such an extent that it’s only really useful for making GIFs for, well, GIPHY. A coup for them?
I miss the old app and wish the developer would allow us to revert to a legacy version...
