GIPHY Capture. The GIF Maker App Reviews

Good concept with some notable problems.

An app like this is exactly what I need to easily capture gifs. I love simplicity and the features available in the app, but there are some problems I have encountered that make this program unusable for the time being. PROS: -Simple interface: A green transparent screen pops up that is easily adjustable in size and shape. This allows you to easily change to size of the gif to match your needs, or crop the gif from a small portion of the screen. -Menu bar button: the menu bar button in the top right of the screen makes the controls easily accessible, such as the saving options and the ability to adjust quality. CONS: -Lack of functionality on the main screen: the simple interface of the main screen is a little TOO simple. The only options available are a minimize button, a start capture button, and grabbable corner for resizing. It took me a while figuring out how to exit the program when I first opened it because there is no exit button on the main screen. -Doesn’t appear in task manager: If necessary, it is not possible to force quit the application from the task manager menu. -Slowdowns: I typically encounter this problem if I try to create a second gif after opening the program. The application will hang during the processing phase, resulting in a tremendous slow down on my computer. It typically takes about 1 minute to exit the program if this happens. Having only one method to exit the program can make this process more difficult. This program has potential if these issues can be sorted out.

The best tool out there to do a quick screencap => gif

I need to share screencaptures with coworkers all the time. This is a great tool to quickly capture interaction on my screen and then I can share it anywhere on the web in gif format.

Best App for GIF screengrabbing

I’ve been using this app for a year and it’s hands down the best app to screen grab a moment and GIF it. Love this!

previously a good app

Was using this with good success until I ran the latest update. Now, I can’t capture a good quality GIF. The color pallete is greatly reduced and produces unusable images. I started a project using this tool and now can’t finish and match my first batch. This app got me in trouble because I commited to finishing a project with this and now can’t. It WAS good. Please revert to the old quality setting or give an option to set our own quality level. For now, I’m off to find something that works. Frustrating.

Was good

This app was great, but some recent update broke the color pallete. Now gifs have really bad colors. Please fix.

i have absolutely no complaints

using this for the first time and so far so good! :D everything runs smoothly and the options are more than enough, i find photoshop so extra and exherting so this was the perfect alternative for me

Simply Perfect.

Good things come in small packages. Nice Job.

Great for the price!

Great app which makes it quick and relatively easy to create a gif from a part of your screen. If it were not free I might withhold a star or two, because it could use a few design improvements which would make the app more intuitive, and a few features like the ability to control the qualtiy. For free, however, Im just very glad the app exists and did the job promised without issue.

Wrong color palette

Bad quality on latest update. All gifs are in grey color regarles of colors

Would be 5 Stars if you could choose NO loop

really really needs option to not loop.

Amazing!

Simple to use, and the results are beautiful. I realize that I sound like a plant, but I’m being totally honest here: I had no idea making anigifs could be so easy! thank heaven for this program!

Used to be great

It used to be great, but as others have said, the quality has dropped sharply. Colors are less accurate and less diverse, quality is choppier and blotchier, and I’m made to force quit it when gifs from high definition video recordings exceed more than 8 seconds—this didn’t use to be the case. It used to handle large/long, high quality gifs with ease and now chokes more than it works. What gives?

Cool but Poor Capture Quality

It’s a neat app but the capture quality is poor. Only small window captures look ok.

Easy, fast and intuitive

I usually dont rate on the app store just because i really don’t care that much and don’t have time, but this product is really good and i’m not sure why it gets hate. I just used it for the first time to capture some screen-captured gifs and it works perfectly. Very intuitive! Maybe for longer or larger gif’s it fails, but then again you shouldn’t be making Gif’s very long because the file size goes up a ton and that’s not what Gifs are meant for. For short under 10 second gifs, this tool is excellent!

Quality of captured footage is terrible

If you’re trying to grab a few seconds of a video in order to turn it into a gif, try something else—this app will ruin the image quality, even on the highest quality setting.

I’m Grabbin Gifs all the time now

LOVE this app. Use it daily now and it is saving me so much time. Super easy to use. Only issue I deal with is trying to get files below 5MB, so I can Tweet. For future versions, I would like to see options for GIF sizes (more percentages), or maybe even a “Make less than 5MB” button.

Love it!

Does exactly what you would expect it to do. I like how it doesn’t capture the cursor by default.

Doesn’t work. No documentation. No way to quit. No menu.

This is not a real product and should not be installed by anybody. You press the button to capture, and it says it captures, but there is no file anywhere, and there is no documentation anywhere, on the entire Internet, telling you where a file might be. A search of my whole hard drive turned up nothing. There is no Quit button on the app—you need to go into Activity Monitor and kill the process in order to quit. As a matter of fact, there is no application menu at all. The “company” web site is a few paragraphs of marketing fluff and absolutely no support or documentation. Apple should be ashamed of letting a product like this in the App Store.

Poor Quality gifs

Unfortunately the GIFs produced aren’t at a quality worth using, and while there are settings for the frame rate, there’s no control over the number of colours or image quality.

Buggy on El Capitan

Capture function works but save / retrieve URL function crashes. Looks like it could be a nifty app but appears to be riddled with bugs.
