GIPHY Capture. The GIF Maker App Reviews

Update is Pathetic

I LOVED this app before the update happened. The previous version was simple and easy to capture GIFs. Now, the new version makes my head spin trying to capture. You can do it still, but you have to start the video early and it’s just a pain in the butt now. Whoever made the decision to change the entire UI, go **** yourself.

Great

Love the update — used GifGabber a lot — a big improvement, want the option of sizing (definition) to be added

much worse with each update.

New Giphy cap has a much worse UI. Blocks all media controls. double click on all actions. block entire screen during record. I mean almost every change is for the worse. It crashes every few captures. It used to be so simple and usable now it is tedious and will be uninstalled. Looking for a replacement if anyone know of a similar program.

So upset

I’ve literally never reviewed an app before but I’m so upset by this update. It happened without my knowledge, and completely ruined the utility of the app. It used to be easy to review the gif, check the file size, trim by frame and save gifs for tumblr. The sliders are much more difficult to use, and there’s no way to check the file size until after I’ve saved it. Please make the old version available, I have no use for the new one.

Inferior to GifGrabber

This “update” is absolute garbage. Not only is it more difficult to use than the previous program, but the quality of the end product is inferior by far. This program makes it next to impossible to calculate the size of your gif before you save it, and you can no longer edit frame by frame. Instead you use the awkward slider to choose the timing of the gif instead of the actual frames themselves. And the size of the gif cannot be determined until after you’ve finished editing it. This means anyone who wants to upload to Tumblr or to another app with a gif size limit have to either guess or wait to check the size until the editing is done and hope for the best. I LOVED GifGrabber and made gifs using it nearly every day. I did not want this update and was so desperate to get GifGrabber back, I found the old beta version on the website and have been using that instead. It’s not as nice as the final version of GifGrabber was but it’s still leaps and bounds ahead of this new app. If you’re as upset as I was with this unwanted “update”, I highly suggest going back to the beta version of GifGrabber.

Glitchy Capture is more like it.

That must have been some hard deadline you were under when you raced this mess out the door. So many reviewers have described the problems with this app that I won’t bother going through my list. My favorite is how the window repositions itself away from the video you’re trying to capture every time you adjust the size of the grab frame. I can’t describe enough how much of a thrill it is to use this app now that it’s been rebranded. It’s almost slightly less thrilling than a root canal. At least it works when you’re done pulling your hair out.

latest release limits captures to 15 seconds

…but the old version didn’t. Why?!?
